    Surely one of the most intriguing historical events in Midcoast Maine occurred on October 22, 1844, when throngs of followers of Pastor William Miller climbed the back side of Mount Megunticook to what are today known as the Millerite Ledges, where they expected to witness the dawn of the end times.
